Ordina — Privacy Policy

DataIsland Software LLC  ·  Last updated: 20 May 2026

Ordina is a file search and organization tool for macOS. This policy explains exactly what Ordina indexes, what leaves your device, and what is stored locally.

Summary

Ordina does not collect personal data. All file index data is stored locally on your Mac. Ordina has no server, no account, and no analytics. The only outbound network activity is OAuth authentication for cloud drive providers (credentials stored in macOS Keychain) and Bonjour service discovery on your local network.

What Ordina Indexes

When you add a drive, Ordina scans it and builds a local SQLite database containing:

  • File and folder names
  • File sizes and modification dates
  • Folder hierarchy (path structure)
  • Alias and symlink targets
  • Tags you apply within Ordina
  • Notes you attach within Ordina

Ordina does not read file contents. Documents, images, videos, and other files are not opened or transmitted. Only metadata is indexed.

Where Index Data Is Stored

All index databases are stored locally at:

~/Library/Application Support/Ordina/Volumes/

This data is not synced to iCloud, not transmitted to DataIsland, and not accessible to any third party. There is no Ordina server.

What Leaves Your Device

Cloud Drive Authentication (Optional — Opt-In Only)

To index Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, or iCloud Drive, Ordina uses OAuth authentication provided by each cloud service. When you connect a cloud account:

  • You authenticate through an in-app browser window hosted by the cloud provider
  • DataIsland never sees your cloud account password
  • Access tokens are stored only in your macOS Keychain
  • Ordina uses the provider's API to retrieve file and folder metadata (names, sizes, dates — not file contents)

Each cloud provider's privacy policy governs their handling of authentication and API calls:

  • Google Privacy Policy
  • Microsoft Privacy Statement
  • Dropbox Privacy Policy
  • Apple Privacy Policy (iCloud)

Bonjour — Local Network Only

Ordina uses Apple's Bonjour protocol on your local network (LAN) for two purposes:

  • Ordina Agent discovery — when the Ordina Agent is running on another machine on your network, Ordina discovers it automatically via Bonjour. No data is sent to the internet.
  • Pro license broadcast (Ordina Pro only) — Ordina broadcasts a hash of your purchase receipt on the LAN to enforce single-machine licensing. This hash contains no personal information. No data is sent to the internet.

Bonjour traffic stays entirely within your local network. It is not routed to the internet.

Ordina Agent

The Ordina Agent is a command-line tool that runs on a remote machine on your local network. It builds an index database and broadcasts its availability via Bonjour. All communication between the Agent and Ordina occurs on your local network only. No data is sent to DataIsland or to any internet server.

Full Disk Access

Ordina requests Full Disk Access (FDA) to index external drives and paths outside your home folder. FDA is used solely to read file metadata for indexing. Ordina does not read file contents, modify files, or transmit files or file contents to any server.

What Ordina Does Not Do

  • Does not read or transmit file contents
  • Does not send index data to DataIsland or any internet server
  • Does not require an account or login
  • Does not collect analytics or send crash reports to DataIsland
  • Does not share any data with third parties for advertising
  • Does not sync index databases to iCloud or any cloud service

Children's Privacy

Ordina is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Ordina after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
