PolyProject — Tutorials

Written guides for every feature in PolyProject, the production tracker included with the PolySpeak bundle. Work through them in order for a full introduction, or jump to any section using the contents list.

1 Creating a New Project

What you'll learn: setting up a project around an existing screenplay.

  1. Press ⌘N, or choose File → New Project.
  2. Give the project a name.
  3. Choose an existing .fountain script to build the project around.
  4. PolyProject creates a new .polyproject file tracking that script.
Requires a bundle you already own. PolyProject is included free with the PolySpeak bundle and isn't sold on its own — you'll need at least PolyScript, TableRead, Talent, or Studio installed for there to be anything to track.

2 Reading the Four-Stage View

What you'll learn: understanding what each stage tracks and what "done" looks like.

Each stage shows a clear complete/incomplete indicator so you always know what's left.

3 Jumping into a Sibling App

What you'll learn: moving from PolyProject straight into the right app for the next step.

  1. On any stage, click the button that opens its app — the script in PolyScript, casting or the read-through in TableRead, or a take in Studio.
  2. The relevant file opens directly — no manual searching for the right document.

4 How Automatic Sync Works

What you'll learn: why you don't need to manually update project status yourself.

  1. Finish a step in another app — cast a character in TableRead, generate a read-through, or export a take in Studio.
  2. Bring the PolyProject window back to the front. It picks up the change automatically and updates the relevant stage.
No exporting or re-importing between apps. PolyProject watches for the standard files the other apps produce and reads their status directly — there's no manual sync step to remember.

5 Exporting Finished Captures

What you'll learn: pulling together the final performance-capture exports from one place.

  1. Once Performance Capture shows characters with finished takes, choose Export….
  2. Reorder or select which captures to include.
  3. PolyProject writes them out together.

6 Multi-Window & Finder Integration

What you'll learn: working across multiple projects at once.

  1. Each project you open or create gets its own window.
  2. Double-click a .polyproject file in Finder, or drag one onto the dock icon, to open it directly.
  3. Press ⌘S to save, or ⇧⌘S to Save As.
